Chapter 7: Abhinanda (Swe)

To go back to the roots of Swedish hardcore, when the hardcore genre took off and the first real wave was formed, we have to mention one of the very first bands who co-founded the Swedish hardcore scene.

  Abhinanda, which were formed in early 1990's, were good friends with the band Refused and together, it was those who came in the hard-core wave in Umeå.This hardcore movement spread throughout the country and without saying that it was Abhinanda that started it all, it was clearly a band who pulled their weight!
  If you will talk about what is and what is not "punk", I think singer José Saxlund is a type of "punk legend". All that punk is about, he had himself already 13 years old taking influence from the DIY-ethics where nothing is for granted. José, along with Dennis Lyxen (Refused) was the man who was behind the straight edge label Desperate Fight Records. The label was started because José wanted to struggle to get everyone's music and message as far as possible. As early as the age of 14 he stood there, with his own record label, and was one of those who gave the swedish hardcore scene a face.

”In the winter of -93 we went on our first punk rock tour in Norway together with our friends in Refused. We had a phenomenal time, playing in living rooms and small clubs. On our way to the last show in Kristiansund, driving high up in the Norwegian mountains, on squiggly roads with steeping mountainsides, we crashed both vehicles (a van and a car) and our accompanying friend; Vegard (drummer from Lash Out and tour manager) almost “pissed his pants” as he stated in the video we recorded, documenting the event. It was a scary experience, especially afterwards, realizing what had just happened and taking a taxi to the final show while the taxi driver drove like a Norwegian berserker. But since the shows had been so fantastic we happily took the train home to Umeå, Sweden (carrying the back-line and getting stuck in a small village for 12 hours, we all hate Ånge ever since that time).”

Abhinanda as a group were spending at the end of the 90s but did some gigs and some Japanese-only tour until they ended by 2010.
